well, i am now in florida and loving it! the one downside is that internet access is $10 a day, so i am limiting myself to two days. that means i will be posting a bunch of shots today, but i may not reply to comments until saturday.

as you may have been able to tell, i went to the indy 500 yesterday. it was a blast! the weather was just perfect, and the racing was excellent. i was pulling for marco, but dixon was just too strong to overcome. i got shots of a couple of wrecks (everybody appeared to be ok), along with plenty of other good action shots.
in other good news, i tied for second place in the Zoo-Photographers club contest with

last week i took a trip to the laumeier sculpture park in st. louis. it is a large collection of outdoor art. some of them are quite huge. as with all art, i found some of them completely inexplicable, while others filled me with awe. i have posted a few shots, a some more are coming, but i really need to pay another visit so i can spend some more time really exploring the possibilities. next week i plan to road trip to a tiger sanctuary in missouri. i have never been there before, so i don't know what to expect. hopefully i will come back with some good photos.

well, i wanted to post this yesterday (my birthday), but dA was apparently down for maintenance. better late than never, though, so here is my plan. instead of getting gifts i am giving away features. the first 5 people (i'm 41, 4+1=5) to wish me happy birthday will be featured in my journal. i can't say how long you will be there, but considering my laziness, it will probably be for a while.
to celebrate, i spent the weekend out with my camera. saturday i went to the zoo. i spent a lot of time with the cheetahs (absent my last two visits) and will have plenty of new pictures of them coming up. for the second time in a row, the snow leopards were out and moving around. i also got some really good shots of the amur leopards as well. sunday i got up early and headed to the botanical garden. the tulips are in full bloom, showing some great color this year. there is also an exhibition of sculpture by an artist named niki de saint phalle. i will post a few shots of these, but in the meantime you can read more about her here [link]
tomorrow i have to take my father to the hospital for an operation. it's nothing life threatening, but i will probably be at the hospital most of the day. i don't know if they have wi-fi there, so i may not be posting or answering comments. i'll catch up on wednesday. hope everyone is having a day of some sort.
